About

Dunc Williams is a singer-songwriter based in Chicago. He plays a brand of thoughtful and honest music centered around personal lyrics and the blending of alternative, folk, and indie rock with his unique voice. “The feel of a song informs the listener how to interpret the more tangible parts,” Dunc says. Upon moving to Chicago, the COVID-19 pandemic launched into full swing, giving Dunc time to work on his music in preparation for the inevitable renaissance following such a widespread shutdown. “The new projects are centered around two things: introspection and movement.”

Born in Freiburg, Germany, he grew up in southeast Michigan and started playing guitar in high school. While attending the University of Michigan for a degree in computer science, Dunc met people who were following music as their career and started to think more seriously about it. Over those four years, he started writing music and playing at open mics.

Towards the tail-end of his time at school, after building up a small collection of recording gear, he released a debut album titled Room to Grow. This collection of music reflected the intimate experience of recording a project in your room as a stepping stone towards something greater. “Taking that first step, just trying to push something out there is the most important step. The rest will follow. You’ve set a precedent for yourself.”
